Here is the third edition of Zephy's Off Kilter Picks of the Week. These are some assorted tracks that are the favorites of Zephysonas! He has selected them as the cream of the crop of brony music this week. We hope you give this a read and them a listen.
Praises for the artist, Yourenigma. Whose technical skill
and musical knowledge always yield sophisticated and interesting tunes to
listen to. This version of "my
roommate is a bassist," is a club edit of his original work. Reorganized
to yield more drive and less string-focus with a shorter build up in the intro,
this song could easily fit into any club scenario while still maintaining
enough subtle musical nuances to make everyone happy.
Stress is statistically at its highest point, for people, in
the holiday seasons. It is always nice to take a moment to wind down and settle
back into ones routines. And if you want calming music to do that by, this is
certainly the piece for you. A relaxing, almost haunting introduction heralded
by light strings, percussion and harp is later complimented with the listless
flow of a solitary flute that lulls the listener into a state of content. The
end of the song comes as a surprise. Rather than tapering off calmly, the
instrumentation builds and swells briefly into a strong and hopeful section
that ends the piece on an equally strong note.
A fast, chaotic, driving tune with a focus drawn from the
inspiration of traditional Finnish and Russian folk music. This
foot-tapping-tune remains strong throughout, with its exceptional guitar and
synth parts that compliment the vocals of the esteemed Rina-chan. Props to psychgoth for composing such a unique and fun piece
of music.
One dos not simply pass over a new Tsyolin composition. An orchestral adaptation of tombstones
old "Octavia's overture," this tune does the original justice, while
still giving its own unique spin to the tune. Taking a slower and more constant
tempo with more room for epic chord swells, awesome instrumental runs, and
concise percussion parts. There is really not much I can say to this other than the proclamation that Tsyolin is
certainly one of the strongest orchestral arrangers in the fandom.
Something a little different with this one. A piano
transcription by DJ Delta, with free available sheet music for download. DJ
Delta never takes short cuts in his transcriptions, always capturing the songs
amazingly, and this isn't the first. There are dozens of Pony-related
transcriptions on their youtube channel. Definitely worth checking out for any
good piano players (as these transcriptions are certainly not easy).
