Synthwave is a genre that has been around since MLP began but took some time to permeate the community. Some musicians such as D-Notive and Aviators have gone on to make it exclusively outside of the community in recent years. It's use of retro synths and an 80's vibe is similar to synthpop but it still has it's own style and is often instrumental in it's approach.
