IDM is one of those genre names that was likely designed by a troll. "Intelligent dance music" is the kind of term that gets most electronic fans upset and while there's a level of "it's art", it rarely is truly dance music, as it's intended for listening purposes, is often off-beat and intentionally strange. Whether it means you're intelligent for liking it is up for debate, but if you do then you'll find it fascinating (and maybe you'll be a bit clumsy on the dance floor).
Feel free to recommend some artists not included in here (these artists specialize in it) or include up to 10 of your favorite acoustic tracks in the comments section (for an eventual best of countdown).
One of the more unique sounding artists and incorpoprating an electronic lounge sound to their complex IDM music. On their debut they picked up where PinkiePieSwear left off (also favoring cut-up character vocal samples) but quickly made it clear they were going an entirely different direction with it to becoming an innovative artist and a production wizard. We've seen many more amazing and ornate tracks emerge in the months after his debut, and he most recently completed a batch of collaborations that showed further diversity in styles and his most complex works yet. He followed these up with direct responses for season 2 episodes. He's one of the most respected artists in our community and is also extremely humble.
Replacer
emerged into the scene with the amazing synthpop track "Cerulean Blue",
and just as quickly has shown all range of music since, from the IDM
souding "Cleaned Up" to a ponified rock cover of "Let 'em In", and has also remixed/covered a few pony tracks as well. It's
clear that the guy can sing and has a penchant for great pop music, so we
hope that he continues his great streak of wonderful brony music.
One of the few active brony musician from Mexico. Not that you
know, though, since he posts helpful, positive comments on MLR in his second
language English (and knows French, Icelandic, and Swedish as well!). He's self-taught musically and quite
adept at IDM, post rock, and electronic that combine is guitar and
vocals. While his tracks are not as frequent as some artists, they are
detailed, complex, polished, and well-received by a growing fan-base
that loves his unique sound. One of the great musicians that has followed in the steps of SoGreatAndPowerful, yet having his own unique approach. A wonderful human being too!

One
of the few people to not only remix SoGreatandPowerful (on a "Beautiful
Heart") but also collaborate with them very recently ("Other Animals").
Since we've been around long enough to remember when people immediately
compared SoGreatandPowerful to the veteran PinkiePieSwear's style, it
seems only fitting to see history repeat and yet another amazing brony
musician continue in the footsteps of both and yet find new ground to
work with. Very impressive complextro (IDM) and vocal slicing and fans of
either of the 2 artists should seek out Facexplodie immediately.
A great mix of electronic, IDM beats, chiptune, and even some orchestral
,there's some great music coming from Toastwaffle. With SGAP and PPS as
influences TW is trying hard to find a new way to emulate while still
retaining a wonderful sense of personal style (and succeeding). Many
people have already fallen in love with his music and I'm sure once you
check it out you will too.
Notable track: Sweetie's Big Race (Toastwaffle's Remix)
Sadsic
is a brony who has been with the community from it's early stages.
Entering tracks on Toast Beard since ZIQ01, he does a great job of making
music outside the norm. Whether it's the glitch-hop of "Granulated
Pony", the thrash house of "Ponycast", or the IDM of "Honey (with sci)"
it's quite a departure from what other produce even attempt. While
the majority of his music on Bandcamp and SoundCloud is non-pony music
he is definitely a brony and a Toast Beard veteran that pushes the
envelope in an exciting direction.
" I started making music in the fandom in May of 2013. I really like to
make old-school vocal IDM/synth-pop, while using my Microkorg
synthesizer as well as a few software-synths for good measure through Fl
Studio. Overall I love Analog-synthesis the warm tone it produces."
One of our great former authors and intial contibuters to BMD. Glitchhog was already an active columnist on Equestrian Rhythm before he joined BMD, and like most of us, was a brony musician as well. He specialized in jazz and piano-based pony music initially, but has put out great electronic music further along (including IDM), and is still a listener for EQD. He has collected his Rarity Kills Sweetie Belle EP on his bandcamp EP and is currently non-pony making progressive house under his Strobe moniker and now Avenir for pony music.
TBS has shown a level of production and creativity that not only follows in the footsteps of IDM musicians such as SGAP but deserves to stand directly beside it as a peer. We might be late in the game in getting TBS on BMD but fans and other musicians are not late in recognizing his accomplishments thus far.
Averaging with a new track ever 4 months Kreuhn might not most well known pony yet or a person who's exploding with an array of tracks, but with plenty of support from the Sori 52 clan and amazingly ornate IDM and prog tracks he's definitely a musician where quality matters.
"I spent my formative years listening to post-rock and indie rock.
Nowadays, I write IDM and (mostly) instrumental hip-hop that somehow
still reflects those first loves."
"I
don't want to limit myself to one electronic genre and want to
eventually start calling everything I make either Complextro or IDM.
However, for right now I primarily work in Experimental Dubstep and
Electro-House." Plenty of tracks on his sites as he's been busy with
pony tracks for the better part of the year so check out the sergeant. He also dj's!
Notable track: Daniel Ingram - Welcome (Sgt-Whip Remix)
